Context

Thesis Project (2016)

The layout of the revisited freezer offers the residents of Salluit new types of indoor and outdoor spaces adapted to uses and activities specific to Inuit culture and spontaneous gatherings. The project rests on a central hill. It is a social anchor, a symbolic “seam” that unites parts of the village. A community kitchen welcomes the preparation and consumption of food, while providing space for sharing knowledge about the land’s resources. At the “solidarity counter”, residents have free access to country food, prepared or not, and partake in the local production which contributes to food security.
